Does the name Dr. Ben Carson sound familiar. You may remember him for his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast with President Obama sitting next to him. He is in the news again.
He is being audited by the IRS. Can you believe this? You can Google his name and IRS and get a lot of hits or just check out the article at the Washington Times.
Everyone said he criticized the president. I watched the speech on You-Tube and didn’t see it as being a hard core attack, just some observations and encouragements. It seems to have been enough to set in motion another example of the chilling misuse of power that we are seeing with this administration. It is the ultimate coercion, using the tentacles of the federal government to silence dissent. The Obama administration is blatantly using every organ of government to harass anyone who they see as raising a voice of disagreement.
Has the government power been misused before. I am sure it has. Does that excuse it now? This is one of the reasons that I am in that part of the political spectrum that fears the government more than the greedy corporations. Exxon has never been able to call out the SWAT teams when I bought gas somewhere else. Wal-mart has never had me audited by the IRS when I stopped at a local retailer. Microsoft may try to mess with my computer but I have never been visited by the FBI because I use WordPerfect instead of Word.
Yet.
Are the words “impeachment” and “indictment” still in the dictionary?
Our political leaders need to change them from nouns to verbs and from passive to active tense.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

How dare he point out that the Emperor has no clothes!
ReplyDeleteI think that story should be required reading in every classroom in the country. Maybe we could add a national holiday in which it is required to be read in every home.

The milk-toasts we currently have in Washington don't have enough backbone to impeach a pissant.
ReplyDeleteIt will come back to bite them. Sooner better than later. Remember the song, "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" Substitute "leaders" for "flowers."
