I usually don’t notice my face.
I don’t know if it is a defense mechanism or if I really don’t care what I look like. I generally look at myself in the morning enough to do the basics. After that I forget about my looks. I am what I am. I figure I would rather be the ugliest person in the room than the most handsome. I don’t need to look at myself.
So the other day I was startled as I stopped to wash my hands and the sun was shining through the window. It lit up my countenance with all of its glory. I was a bit startled. I wondered who the old man was in the picture. Then I realized it was a mirror and it was I.
There is a reason for candle lit dinners.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

My Grandmother looks at me from my mirror every morning. Some days it is a bit disconcerting to the 30 year old who lives inside this nearly 70 year old body. But most days it is a comfort and brings back fond memories.
ReplyDeleteNow that is a good word picture. I can't see it though. One of my grandfathers had been dead ten years by this age and the other one was at death's door. I figure I have a few more years to go though.

LOL ! (It makes it easier for the restaurant to feed you garbage, too.)
ReplyDeleteIt helps when the eyes don't work as good as they used to. Usually I don't ask a lot of questions about what is in something. If I can eat hot dogs and sausage, I can eat anything.

When I was younger, I used to see wrinkled hands and faces as beautiful pictures of a full and productive life. I'm not so appreciative of my own wrinkles, however.
ReplyDeleteProverbs talks about grey hair being a glory but I can't think of any mention of wrinkles.

You old people go through a lot don't you.
DeleteYes, Vincent. We go through a lot, including being young, which has its own trials. Hang in there and you may be old and wrinkled one day.
