Life is made up of goals, dreams and fantasies.
I work with middle school children and I know how their minds work so let me point out that fantasies are not necessarily sexual in nature.
Fantasies are the study of the impossible. I had a fantasy of being Zorro. It was not going to happen. I had a fantasy of scoring the winning shot, at the buzzer in the final game of the NBA playoffs. I knew it was a fantasy because I am a klutz at basketball. I could still enjoy the moment.
Dreams are achievable. They are not real yet, but they can be. They may be far in the future but with planning and a lack of tragedy you can live your dream eventually. They are often what keep us going through the lean times.
Goals are short term, measurable and achievable. They are the steps to the dream.
Fulfilment in life comes at the joining of dreams and goals. When I was young I had a dream. I had a picture in my mind of where I was going in life and what it would look like when I got there. In order to achieve that dream I established goals such as college graduation. If you can’t reach your goals your dream becomes a fantasy.
As I moved through life I had some successes and some failures. A series of obstacles came into play that eventually made it impossible to live my dream and I was forced to go to plan B. My hope was to get back on track and get back to the dream.
It ain’t gonna happen. There comes a time in life when there isn’t enough time left and the obstacles are unyielding.
My dream has become just another fantasy.
So I seek another dream. Time will tell if I find one. Until that time I have a good life to live. It just isn’t plan A.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

The Carpenters had this one song called "Look To Your Dreams" and it probably describes your scenario the best.
ReplyDeleteI don"t know that one. I will try to remember to You Tube it.

I had a couple dreams, but I've given up on them. Often, we let others spoil our dreams for us. Of course, it's STILL our choosing to let them do so.
ReplyDeleteI guess part of the equation is how much our dream will cost others. An extreme example would be a dream of world conquest. And no, that was not my dream.
