Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2016-141: Necessary Adjustments

It is amazing what you can get used to:  Black coffee, low calorie dressing, living close to a railroad, Hillary Clinton.  Well, maybe not Hillary, but you get the idea.

Actually there are two general types of response to the bumps of life with variations on both themes.  Some people experience a bump and either develop calluses or learn to find a way around.  The other extreme gets some dynamite and blows the offending mound out of existence or gets their minions to do it for them.

I am the first, my wife is the second.  This leads to some interesting conflicts.  The most interesting are when I am the bump.  It is kind of like the immovable object and the irresistible force.

In my quest to lose weight I have had to find substitutes for a lot of my favorite tastes.  For instance, pop-corn.  Pop corn by itself is relatively low calorie.  Since it has a lot of fiber and is satisfying I have learned to use an artificial butter spray.  It may not fool your taste buds but it gives a little and helps the salt stick to the kernels.  It works for me.  It might not work for you.  I know it doesn’t work for my wife.

My wife insists that she can deal with her weight and still eat ice cream, Oreos and chips.  They have been told they will obey.  I don’t ask how it is going.

Will I be able to find adjustments if the socialists keep nibbling away at my liberty?  Will the masses be so happy when they finally wake up to the restrictions that will come, all for their own good.  Will EBT cards and smart phones become the modern bread and circuses?  Have they already?

I think it is easier to eat popcorn without real butter than it will be to live without the first amendment.

  1. The bad thing is that you probably shouldn't have the salt either, since it raises blood pressure and makes you hold water.

    1. Salt has not worked that way in me or I would have been dead a long time ago. One of the best kept secrets by the medical people is that we are all different. It is why I try not to lecture people with diabetes about how their problems would go away if they would lose weight. If that were the case how would you explain skinny diabetics? The first medication I took for high blood pressure made me retain water. Go figure.

      Grace and peace.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
