We need to be cautious about depending on Donald Trump’s spiritual condition if we are hoping for the country to get back on track. Donald Trump is not a prophet and Americans are not the chosen people. Both will be used by God but make sure your hope is in the right place. If Trump’s administration is actually able to pull us back from the abyss it will not be because of Trump. It will be because there has been a faithful remnant.
Take the example of the discussion between Abraham and God about the destruction of Sodom. Let me set the tone by a couple of verses.
(Genesis 18:23-24 KJV) And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? And God’s response,
(Genesis 18:26 KJV) And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. And as you know the bargaining continues all the way down to 10 righteous. We are not Sodom, yet. I am certainly not Abraham. But God is still God. Jesus called us salt. I have to believe that as long as God’s people are being faithful salt, He will hold back His wrath.
Are you part of the problem or part of the solution? Your faithfulness may have more to do with our survival as a nation than what Donald Trump does. God was able to deal with Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar and Cyrus. The trouble He had was with the children of Israel and their rebellion.

I never heard Trump claim to be a Christian before or during the election. Maybe he did, but I never heard it. Certainly, no-one else claimed it EXCEPT James Dobson on 3-4 occasions, who said that Trump had been RECENTLY converted. That leads me to think that it was probably Dobson who helped him find his way to the Lord. As a new Christian, Trump may have some difficulty changing his behavior quickly enough to satisfy ANYONE. Only time will tell. Regardless, if things go well, it will be due to the Lord's blessings, as you say.
ReplyDeleteI believe I heard him make the statement when he was being interviewed early in the campaign but I would not stake my life on it. I too have heard of Dobson's claim. I am willing to give Trump the same room I gave Reagan, Carter and Bush: I will let God do the judging. He will do it anyway and last I heard He wasn't going to ask my for my opinion.
