The article on my smart phone was from the Reason website. I can’t find it now and refuse to go to a similar article on the Washington Post but the breath-taking scandal was the “new” revelation that the CIA, NSA, FBI, Russians, whomever, can spy on you through your TV, phone, GPS and other electronic devices.
This is not new news. This is old news. Just because the public refuses to pay attention does not make it a new revelation. It is why I have a cover over the camera on my laptop.
The government can turn on any electronic device and use it for listening. I understand there is even a way to make your earphones into microphones. My suspicion is that most of the devices that we have had made in China contain backdoors for their spying at their whim.
Welcome to the modern age. Wake up and watch what you say. Someone or something is listening.

You might look up "How the News Makes Us Dumb" by John Sommerville. I was going to link to the Breakpoint commentary from a few years ago by Colson about it, but I can't find the article now, which is unfortunate because it was a good summation of the book.
