My son in law has a fast car. My daughter will never drive it. It isn’t that he won’t let her. She just doesn’t know how to drive a manual transmission. I concede that I have failed her. When my son was working on his driver’s license we borrowed a car without an automatic and found and empty parking lot for his to experiment in. She slipped through the cracks.
I doubt if it has ruined her live but she will never know the joy of laying scratch from a stop sign. It is more fun when it is your father’s car and he will pay for the new tires and worn out clutch. I learned to drive a stick on dump truck. Did you know that dump trucks can lay scratch? I am not sure my father ever knew that.
How many experiences are closed to us because we refuse to learn new skills. Sometimes it is a matter of waiting. When we had our first internet connection it was a dial up. I refused to learn to use the internet because it was too slow. My son, on his way to becoming a techie, found it addictive. We found out how addictive when we got the phone bills. When the connections got faster I took the plunge. There are parts of the internet which make it worthwhile. How many people refuse to learn about e-mails and texting just because they are abused by so many?
How many experiences are not worth having? Do I really need a Facebook account? Will Instagram change my life in a positive way? Would I have a heart attack if I went skydiving? These are questions that each person must answer for themselves. I don’t have time to look for new experiences. My wife has a long list of experiences she wants me to have. They will take me into the next century.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

I have found that, as I get older, things I wanted to try as a younger person no longer interest me.
ReplyDeleteBut then again there are other things that do. Experience teaches what is important.
DeleteGrace and peace.
True, that!
DeleteDon't get a MySpace. It would really show your age.
ReplyDeleteFor a minute there I thought I had written MySpace instead of Face Book. So goes the memory at my age. I know that MySpace is so yesterday, you young peacock. But then so am I.
