I would never describe myself as an animal lover. Neither would anyone else that knows me, but I am not an animal hater either. Right now I have our new kitten sitting on the file cabinet by my desk purring and tonguing. I have not thrown him out or thrown anything in his direction. I have been working on kittenizing my desk and my morning routine. Animals are like the coaster under my coffee cup. They serve a purpose and can be ignored most of the time. They are also hard to find when you need them, although why you would need a kitten I don’t know.
My wife is an animal lover. She needed a new kitten so we got a new kitten. It was kind of like a drug addict needing a fix or a gun guy lusting after the most recent shinny. Now that she has it she locks it out of the room so she can have some peace. That sends it to me for companionship.
She wishes it would do for her what it is doing in my office. It is taking a nap with its head hanging in my direction like it is asking to be petted. Cats are not really loners. This one needs to be near someone even if it is me. It just wants our relationship to be on cat terms which means the cat is in charge.
I go to the kitchen to refill my coffee cup and when I turn around there is the cat. I find myself talking to the thing as if it could understand. I don’t talk to my coffee cup, at least not often. I also am not tempted to kick my coffee cup across the room.
Do you need a kitten? I envy you. I also worry about you.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

I used to be a cat hater; now I can tolerate them. I can even enjoy a friendly one on occasion, as long as I don't have to live with it. I'm a dog lover, always have been, always will be. Sadly, it's getting too expensive, vet wise. for us to keep a dog. So, when this one is gone, there won't be any more.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could start a business of house training lab puppies and then turn them over to their yuppie owners when they stop chewing everything up.
DeleteGrace and peace.
Why buy a cat when bunnies are so much more fun? Heck, you're in Texas, go out and buy a horse.
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that with the rabbits. Also have had a chicken. Horses are a lot of work and I like them but they scare me. It would be like riding in a robot taxi programmed by a high school kid.
