Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2020-094: Nursing Homes, part 5 of 5, No Surprise

At a church I pastored we came in contact with a woman who had nothing going for her.  She had spent all her money, alienated her family and refused to cooperate with anyone.  When we came in contact with her she was already at the bottom.  We found her a place to stay and saw to it that her needs were met.  Needless to say it was not top of the line but we were able to find a place that was a long way from the bottom.

What thanks did we get?  None.  In fact she got mad one day and checked herself out of the facility.  Then she came to us expecting us to solve the problem for her.  We managed to get her in another place but it was not near as pleasant.  She ended up dying alone and angry.

I don’t expect to end up like her.  One of the standard jokes around our family is to be nice to the grandchildren because they will pick our nursing home.  Maybe, maybe not.  Both my parents died at home.  One was unexpected.  The other had gotten to the point where hospice was involved.  If I end up in a home and my mind is still solid I hope to be the cheerful room on the floor where a lot of laughing is going on.  If my mind is gone then I may still be laughing but at my own jokes.

Kind of like now.

  1. It's sad but true, some folks aren't happy unless they're miserable.

    1. And they are even happier when they can make others miserable.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
