Riots are nothing new in America or the rest of the world. We have lived such sheltered lives that we think suburbia of the 70's is the norm. Not so. Remember your history.
The Boston Massacre was really a riot. A bunch of rowdies were bullying a British soldier who was on guard duty. It is often portrayed as a bunch of patriots standing up for freedom. No, it was a bunch of bullies thinking they could harass the poor guy in uniform. They started with a lot of yelling then progressed to snow balls. Then some bright bulb decided to put rocks inside the snowballs. Eventually the sentry called for reinforcements and shots were fired. It is ironic that one of the founding fathers, John Adams, acted as the defense attorney for the soldiers who fired. He got them off.
Draft riots did not start with Vietnam. They go all the way back to the Civil War. Guess where the big action was: New York City. In three days 120 people were killed. Although the riot started because the draft allowed the wealthy to buy their way out it eventually turned racial. There were also out of town gangs that came to join in the fun.
Since the current riots seemed to be linked to Antifa it is appropriate to look at the Nazi mob on what became known as Kristallnacht. The predecessors of Antifa went through the towns breaking into Jewish business and homes. It involved murder and brutality.
The 1968 Democratic Convention also will be remembered for the violence.
The list could go on.
So riots happen. If you are one of the city people in the wrong part of town then there is no good ending. If you live outside the effected area, count your blessings. We hear rumors that Antifa is planning on coming for the non-urban masses too. They might find the reception a little different and experience why modern riots tend to take place in large cities controlled by the Democrats and with strict gun controls.
Stay safe.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

The only way that a few would escape being shot at in the country would be if they catch unsuspecting people away from their homes.
ReplyDeleteEven then they are playing the odds because the "unsuspecting" might also be carrying as a habit.
