How many of us can remember the song that once played on the radio, “They’re Coming to Take Me Away”? It was offered in humor along with such timeless classics as “Purple People Eater” and “Itsy, Bitsy, Teenie-Weenie, Yellow-Polka Dot Bikini”. None of them were taken seriously.
That was our mistake. One of those should have been embraced as prophecy, not humor. We know it happened in Germany in the 1930's and in the Soviet Union starting in 1917. We know it is an ongoing process in Communist China and Cuba. We have just shaken our heads, said, “Tsk, Tsk” and gone back to our video games.
Well, the new and improved version is coming to America. How is it new and improved? Keep in mind that your phone has a GPS system and possibly you car also. Every electronic device in your house has a probable microphone and many have internet access. They know where we are, what we are doing, whom we are doing it with and what we are saying. George Orwell might want to update his book to “2021". Oh, that’s right, he is dead and can’t do that. Not to worry, being dead didn’t keep people from voting in the last election.
Picture your college or high school reunion in a few years. Someone says, “Whatever happened to _______?” Everyone else starts edging away and looking around in fear. Kind of like Trump supporters and staff are acting today.
Welcome to the future.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

"They're Coming to Take Me Away" - not so funny any more. I hear rumblings about 're-education camps' and New York has a bill pending in their legislature that if passed, will allow people to be removed from their homes if they are suspected of coming into contact with anyone who has the virus. Welcome to our new reality.
ReplyDeleteThat is also the nature of the red flag laws. I believe that the war on drugs also gave that kind of power to the police.
