Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2021-018: Cornerstone Considerations: A Suggested Journey

Our nation is in turmoil.  I for one wonder which way to turn.  In reality, much of what is going on will not touch me in the immediate future but I am concerned about the inimmediate future.  I don’t expect the black helicopters to hover over my house.  I don’t expect the SWAT teams to be lining up in my driveway.  I don’t expect it this week.  Next week, who knows.

My concern is for the future.  I have children.  I now have grandchildren.  I have friends who have the same and I am concerned about their futures as much as mine, more actually.  One of the things I have found helps is to go to the original documents.  As a Christian, that means looking at the Bible.  As an American it means looking at the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.  I am looking at the Bible on a daily basis but it has been awhile since I have carefully and thoughtfully pondered our founding documents.

I read through the Declaration of Independence before I started to write.  I printed it out so I can mark it up as I go.  I has been eight years since I made this journey.  Shame on me.

Let’s see where it leads.

  2. Yes, I know that feeling of "wondering and helplessness" that some of us now feel. I turned 77 yrs. last Monday..I have a grandson in college and he is doing exceptionally well, despite all the recent happenings. I have decided, now being this age, I will give it all up to my Savior Jesus Christ...I feel too old and tired to fight anymore and believe it is now up to the next generations to decide what kind of America they want to live in. If they don't fight for the freedoms I was blessed with..well, you get what you are willing to fight for....It's all up to them and the Lord for me now.

    1. I have noticed in my life a tendency to say things like, "All that is left is prayer." Then I shake myself and say that is where I should be starting.

I feel your weariness. I am not 73 and counting. I don't have the energy I used to have but my desire is to be salt in an unsavory world. I believe P.J.O'Rourke had a book with a title that talked about age and guile defeating youth and energy. Keep dispensing quiet wisdom. The results are up to God.

Keep in mind they want us to give up.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
