Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2021-177: Headlines: Survival of the Fishes

The arrogance and foolishness of science continue to march on.  As I was scrolling through Free North Carolina I came across a post on the discovery of a fish thought to be extinct.  Don’t get excited.  It is not current events because the initial discovery took place in 1938.  I had heard about it before but I didn’t realize the knowledge went back that far.  According to science the fish had been extinct for hundreds of millions of years, until it wasn’t.

That’s okay.  Anyone is entitled to make a mistake.  Then they decided to double down as Lords of the Universe.  The article says,

“...marine scientists are calling for reinforcement of conservation measures to protect the fish that dates back 420 million years.”
Of course they are and I assume it will require more government.  Now I ask you, if this fish has managed to survive off the radar for 420 million years, what do scientists think they can do to add to that record?  It is like trying to find a way to preserve cock roaches from going extinct.

I guess scientists are like any other political animal.  They need to be needed.  It is safer for all of us if they focus on the coelacanth instead of putting their energy into global warming, over population and economically feasible renewable energy.  Let them continue to play behind the curtain while life in Oz goes on.

  1. Reminds me of the story about the insect scientists who, after careful study, concluded that it was impossible for bumblebees to fly. But since bumblebees are unaware of science, they go ahead and fly anyway.

    1. Does that mean that it might be possible for the media to tell the truth?

  2. Yeah; I read a book about this as a kid. I think it was called "Search For A Living Fossil." The whole book was about how a scientist came across one of these fish that had been caught in a fisherman's net. He did everything he could to preserve the thing, but it ended up rotting while he was trying to get it home. Then someone else said they had one in South America. He came to find out that the fishermen there caught these fish now and again. They were rare, but not unheard of. The people thought it was great when the fishermen brought one in. Seems that the scales of the fish were great for roughing up the rubber on inner tubes before patching them... Anticlimactic, to say the least...

    1. Now there is a legacy, patching inner tubes. It is a good thing we don't use them much any more or the fish might be hunted to extinction.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
