Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2021-186: Ode to Old: Whole Memory Holes

One of the ways I know my memory is going is that I forget my memory is going.  Have you ever had someone ask you a question and when you answer it they get that look on their face and say, “I knew that.”  Yes, they did but they didn’t remember it.  We have a restaurant we like.  It is great if we can find it.  Often we turn in to the wrong driveway and as soon as we do remember that you can’t get there from here.

It gets irritating.  I keep putting my I-pad down without checking to see if it is stable and it goes clunk on the floor.  I should know better.  I do know better.  I still do it.  I forget to put my medicine back in the drawer so I will know I took it.  Later I will see it sitting where I put it in preparation for my daily dose and ask myself, “Did I, or didn’t I?”  I know some people that keep backing into the same pole.

At least my mind is still healthy enough to know I forgot.  At least I think it is.  Someday it won’t occur to me to wonder.  And, yes, I know I have written about this before.

  1. I thought of a clever response to your post, but I forgot what it was.

  2. My beloved great aunt had Alzheimer's, quite bad toward the end. The saddest moments were the ones when she fully realized just how far her mind was gone.

    1. We had a similar experience with my mother-in-law. What was interesting was she always seemed to remember if we were taking her out to lunch.

  3. Yes, us old flatulences have what is called Oldhimers, it is contagious, and it grows day by day... Now, what were we talking about? I had the honor and grace to care for my mother who died of dementia and my father of brain cancer four months later in 2007. I am glad I had the skills and training to be able to do that for my parents.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
