I have been on the road. That makes blogging a real challenge. Part of it is the drain of travel. Part of it is the brain numbing ubiquitous TV. Part of it is the joy of grandchildren.
The TV is stuck on HGTV and the Hallmark Channel. Hallmark has something going on that they call Christmas in July. The Hallmark formula is standard fare. That does not change much. What I am finding discouraging is the interpretation of the meaning of Christmas that I find coming across the tube. Hallmark talks about family, hope, joy, giving, and all kinds of warm fuzzies. What they are completely ignoring is the real reason for Christmas. It is like an early form of Kwanza. They completely ignore the birth of Jesus. That makes the whole series meaningless.
As I write I am home. I have my man cave that is far away from any TV. I hope to get back to being productive, or at least feeling like I am productive. There is more to life than romantic formula and infomercials.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

I had to smile when I read your post. I have DISH TV, over 400 channels...it's cheap (about $95 and change/mo)..I'm not connected to the internet with TV. I have no mobile phone (love my landline as is)...My only internet is my 10 yr. old HP laptop which I completely reconfigured so it runs like a top! Out of my 400+ channels, I watch about 5 regularly and HGTV is no longer one of them (they just went too "Libby" for me). I spend most of my TV time on TCM (hooked on the old classic 30's, 40's movies) and Tennis Channel....Hallmark is always a choice late on insomnia nights>>>The Golden Girls! Today I enjoyed the Tour de France final stage and got a lovely tour of Paris and finished with the finals of the British Open...I do love sports on TV! Actually, much of my time now is spent reading novels and listening to the radio for background music. Just not a fan of Hallmark's Christmas/July runs..I prefer to celebrate on December 25th with family and worship services to renew my spirit.
ReplyDeleteMy wife keeps telling people she is a dinosaur when it comes to things like phones and computers but the kids have set her up with a Roku and such. I wonder what she would do if it was disconnected. Read books maybe.
