Have I been brainwashed theologically?
How about my sense of history?
Face it. We were all taught certain constructions by our family, our church, our school and our culture as a whole. There are bound to be certain biases that are drummed into us.
How do you know if you have been brainwashed? It is like dementia, you are the last to know.
I think one of the best tools to know truth is to be skeptical. Not cynical. They are not the same thing although many people think they are synonyms. The cynic rejects everything. The skeptic questions in order to find an answer. One of the key targets of your skepticism should be yourself. I think we need to accept we are creatures of habit and have been molded by our personal experiences. That is not a bad thing, just reality.
I think truth can be reached. Compare what you think is true with what is factual. Try to look at things logically and begin to work out what sources you can believe and what you can’t. Realize that you will not be able to research everything and will have to put down some foundations and move on from there.
Theologically we are the victims of tradition. We put confidence in authority whether it be the church, parents or our latest guru on the internet. To a certain degree that is necessary. We need sources we can trust because we cannot research everything. Our real reasource, though, should be the Bible itself.
Theologically I have found that I cannot accept anyone without questions.
Politically the only source I accepted was Rush and he is gone now.
I continue to rejoice in the ability to think, or at least to think I can think. I was recently sick and remember what it was like to not be able to think. I didn’t even care that I could not follow a thought. I am over that now and ready to move on.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
