I have been out of contact with the real world or two days. I woke up, and when I tried to stand up to head to the bathroom, I felt significantly disoriented. I moved slowly, took care of business and went back to bed to see if I could sleep it off. An hour later when I thought about getting up to go turn on the coffee, I knew it wasn’t going to happen. I went back to sleep and eventually my wife realized I was not doing my usual routine and we ended up going to the ER.
In trying to describe the sensation the best analogy that came up was being drunk. Now, I have never been drunk so I don’t know that that feels like. I have seen people who can be legally drunk who seem to function normally but I have also seen people who have dipped too far into the cups as they stagger and weave. Although the evidence seemed to show that I was mentally sharp my body did not want to agree.
Anyway, we went the marathon. CT scan, chest X-ray, evaluation by occupational therapy, echo-cardiogram with a bubble test, whatever that it, and finally an MRI. We still have not heard anything from the MRI but nothing else showed any issues. The final analysis may be vertigo, which seems to be one of those broad terms that covers an array of physical issues but they don’t know what causes it or how to cure it. At present I am feeling as normal as an old man can feel and assuming that life will resume.
As usual that may or may not include regular posts. It probably depends on my nap schedule.
Blessings on you and my the ER trips in your life be as uneventful.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

My wife had vertigo the first six months of last year and it is very complex. She had 3 doctors, 2 therapists and a chiropractor. Praise the Lord she has had no episodes for 8 months. She was diagnosed with Meneirs disease so has cut back on salt. She was also diagnosed with vestibular migraines and takes betahistine for that. Other than that, physical therapy helped a lot, but most people I know that have had vertigo had it go away after awhile. I hope yours is just a one time event. May God bless you and praying for you that this doesn’t continue.
ReplyDeleteI am jealous. I didn't get a chiropractor. A friend wrote me about the salt issue. Giving it up seems to have solved his problem. Thanks for the prayers. Ultimately God is in charge.
