Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2025-125: Starlight, Star Bright

As I sat in the dark on the porch I noticed a very bright star.  I have not seen it before.  It didn’t take me long to realize that it was an airplane coming in for a landing, and that it was still very far away.  That made it look like it was not moving if I just glanced at it but if I stared at it, it did move continually.  What was strange about this is I can’t remember seeing that star for the last month.

How could this be?  It’s bright.  It’s hanging right out there in the middle of dark everything.

I didn’t see it because of the cloud cover.  Why I didn’t hear it I don’t know.  It could be that I’m just so used to the sound that I didn’t pay any attention.

What does that tell us about our lives?  You knew I’d ask that didn’t you?  It tells us that just because we don’t see something doesn’t mean that it’s not there.  Just because we don’t hear something doesn’t mean it isn’t making noise.

This can be interpreted in terms of Providence.  God is working.  Just because we don’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not happening.  Miracles are going on around us all the time but the confusion and clouds of life blind us to them.  The fact that we’re not looking for them makes them invisible.  I’m sure you’ve had the experience where someone walks by you that you know well, but you don’t see them because you weren’t expecting to see them at that point in time.  They are out of their place.  That makes him invisible.

We can also be interpreted in terms of our interpersonal relations.  We make assumptions based on what we may or may not see, and don’t consider the fact that we may or may not have been looking.  We may not have been listening.  It doesn’t mean that people around us aren’t doing things.  All gifts don’t come wrapped in pretty paper and wonderful bows on our birthday.  Most gifts come quietly, secretly, and unannounced.  Those kind of gifts vastly outnumber the obvious.

Celebrate the unknown.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
